My name is Ellen,
... and music has been a huge part of my life for as long as I can remember! My family got a piano when I was five years old, and when I began plunking out tunes like "Mary Had a Little Lamb" and "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star" by ear, my mother asked if I'd like to take piano lessons. And that was it... I was bitten!
I studied piano from the age of six with some truly inspirational teachers, performing regularly in studio recitals and competing every year in the Kiwanis Music Festival in St. John's, Newfoundland. Throughout my youth I was also heavily involved with choral music, singing in school, community and church choirs, and I was a choral scholar at the Anglican Cathedral for several years. I entered Memorial University's School of Music in 1992, and graduated with a Bachelor of Music in 1996, and a Bachelor of Music Education in 1997.
I began teaching piano privately when I was still in high school, and started Ellen Badcock Studio of Music in 1998. I have been operating out of my home studio in Kemptville since 2003, and have taught piano at a number of schools in Merrickville, Brockville, Prescott and Kemptville. In addition, I work as Director of Music at St. James Anglican Church in Manotick, where I play the organ and piano, and direct the choir.
In my free time, I sang with the Ottawa Choral Society for many years and now enjoy singing with Aella, a treble chamber choir in Ottawa.
Teaching children has become a true passion of mine. I have been lucky to have such amazing teachers throughout the years, with whom I am still great friends today. These men and women have influenced me both musically and personally, and above all, nurtured a deep love of music within me. I don't know if I will turn out a crop of concert pianists, but for me that is not the goal. If I can help a child to know and love music, and give him the tools to allow that music to enrich his life the way it has mine, then I have done my job.
